Interphase
Cell grows, performs normal functions, copies its DNA

Prophase
Chromosomes condense (shorten & thicken) and becomr visible
Spindle fibers emerge from centrosomes
Nuclear envelope breaks down + nucleolus disappears
Pro- = First

Metaphase
Spindle fibers are fully developed + centrosomes are at opposite poles of cell
Chromosomes line up at metaphase plate
Sister chromatids are attached to spindle fiber at opposite poles
Meta- = middle

Anaphase
Sister chromatids (now chromosomes) break down and are pulled toward opposite poles
Spindle fibers get longer and stretch out the cell
Ana- = up

Telophase
Chromosomes go to the opposite poles and decondense
Nuclear envelope surrounds each set of chromosomes
Spindles break down
Telo- = end

Cytokinesis
Daughter cells separate
Cleabahe furrow forms
Cyto- = cell
-kinesis = movement
