Aircraft

Airplane

Pilot

A person who operates an aircraft.

Captain

First Officer

The second pilot who assists the captain.

Cockpit

The area where the pilots operate the aircraft.

Cabin

The area where passengers sit.

Passenger

A person traveling in an aircraft who is not operating it.

Flight Attendant

A crew member responsible for passenger safety and service.

Runway

A prepared surface used for aircraft takeoff and landing.

Taxiway

A path used by aircraft to move between the runway and other airport areas.

Airport

A place where aircraft take off, land, and are serviced.

Tower

The airport facility that controls certain aircraft movements.

Air Traffic Control (ATC)

A service that manages and directs aircraft traffic.

Airspace

The portion of the atmosphere designated for aircraft operations.

Takeoff

The phase when an aircraft leaves the ground.

Landing

The phase when an aircraft returns to the ground.

Departure

The act or phase of leaving an airport.

Arrival

The act or phase of reaching an airport or destination.

Flight

A journey made by aircraft.
