Health
A state of complete physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being.
Wellbeing
A sense of how you think and feel your life is going, maximizing emotional and physical functioning.
Socioecological Model
A framework that explains the multiple levels of social systems and their interactions with individuals and the environment.
Population Health
Health outcomes of a group of individuals, including the distribution of those outcomes within the group.
Public Health
The study and practice of health promotion and disease prevention at the population level.
Community Health
Health issues, events, and activities related to the health of a whole community.
Equality
Equal treatment where everyone benefits from the same supports.
Equity
Fair treatment where everyone gets the supports they need, addressing their specific circumstances.
Health Disparities
Differences in health outcomes between populations.
Health Equity
When all people have the opportunity to attain their full health potential without disadvantage.
Risk Factor
Any attribute or exposure that increases the likelihood of developing a disease or injury.
Behavior Change
Efforts put in place to change people's personal habits and attitudes to prevent disease.
Health Belief Model
A model stating that health behaviors are influenced by perceptions of susceptibility, severity, benefits, and barriers.
Stages of Change Model
A model that explains an individual's readiness to change their behavior through different stages.
Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)
Societal conditions that affect health, shaped by social and health policies.
Economic Stability
The financial resources affecting access to healthcare and overall health outcomes.
Education Access and Quality
The impact of education on health behaviors, opportunities, and socioeconomic status.
Healthcare Access and Quality
The availability and affordability of healthcare services affecting health outcomes.
Neighborhood and Built Environment
The physical characteristics of where people live that impact health and quality of life.
Social and Community Context
Interactions with family, friends, and community that influence health and well-being.
