“Commodification”
process of making something that was not previously bought and sold a commodity in the marketplace

Material culture:
the art, housing, clothing, sports, dances, foods and other similar items constructed or created by a group of people
Non-material cultures

Ethnicity
An affiliation or identity within a group bound by common ancestry and culture
Can also mean a small, cohesive, culturally linked group of people who stand apart from the surrounding culture, often as a result from migration

Race
a categorization of human based on skin color and other physical characteristics
Gender
social difference between men and women, rather than the anatomical, biological differences between the sexes
Gendered
in terms of a place, whether the place is designed for or claimed by men or women
divisions of labor one of the clearest ways in which societies are gendered ( inclusive of exclusive of a gender)
Heteronormative
viewpoint of researchers that the default subject of their studies is a white, heterosexual, male
Queer theory:
theory that highlights the contextual nature of opposition to and focuses on the political engagement of “queens” with the heteronormative
