Moles
A fundamental unit in chemistry used to measure the amount of a substance, as used to calculate mass from 0.250mol of NaCl or amount in moles from 25g of H2O.
Molarity (M)
A measure of concentration defined as moles of solute per volume of solution, used in calculations such as finding the mass of HCl needed to make 250cm3 of a 0.850M solution.
Dilution
The process of reducing the concentration of a solute in solution, such as adding water to 1.00dm3 of 2.00MH2SO4 to yield 0.500M, or diluting 50.0cm3 of 6.00MNaOH to 200.00cm3.
Significant Figures
The specific digits used to report answers with proper precision on Free Response Questions (FRQS) on the AP Exam.
Copper (II) Sulfate (CuSO4)
An inorganic chemical compound featured in Section 1 practice to calculate the mass contained within 0.750mol.
Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3)
A chemical compound used in a Section 2 practice problem where a chemist prepares 2.5dm3 of a 0.100M solution.
Iron (III) Oxide (Fe2O3)
A reactant in the stoichiometry problem Fe2O3+3CO→2Fe+3CO2, where 0.750mol reacts with excess carbon monoxide.
Balancing Equations
The chemical skill of balancing reactant and product stoichiometric coefficients, such as balancing KCIO3→KCI+O2 or C5H12+O2→CO2+H2O.
