Crime
An act committed or omitted in violation of Public law, either forbidding or commanding it
Criminal liability
Being legally responsible for commiting a crime
Felony
Crimes punishable by death or improsonment in a state Prison or penitentiary
Misdemeanor
Offenses for which the pusishment is other than death or improsonment in a state prison, or that have not been designated felonies by Statute
Actus Reus
The guilty ACT; the physical act of committing a crime
Mens Rea
The guilty MIND; the intent or mental state to Commit a crime
Criminal law
The branch or division of law that clefines Crimes and Provides for their Punishment
Civil Law
The branch of law that deals with disputes between People or organizations, usually involving compensation rather than Criminal Punishment
