What does each block represent in periodic table
Each block is named after the subshell containing the highest energy electron for the elements in that block
Where are each of the blocks located
S block far left, in these elements highest energy electron is in s subshell
P block far right, highest energy electrons in p subshell
D block in middle, highest energy electron in all of these elements is in a d subshell.
What does blocks in periodic table help wuth
We can easily check that an electron configuration is correct.
What do different periods represent
Periods 1, 2 and 3 represent the first second and third electron shells.
By looking at position of silicon, how can we work out the electron configuration.
We can see silicon is the second element in the 3p subshell, confirms electron config is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p2
