cyclical

When there is a clear pattern of repeating cycles. We can use this data to predict the outcome of future events.

non-cyclical

When there is no clear pattern of cycles. This data cannot be used to determine future events.

nuclear fission

The process by which stars fuse lighter elements making heavier ones. Energy is given off in this process.

interstellar nebula

A cloud of gas and dust in space that is the remnants of a star or stars that have exploded in the past. These are areas where new stars are formed.

magnitude

The measure of luminosity of a star ranging in value from positive numbers to negative numbers. The lower the value of magnitude indicates a brighter star.

relative

Considered in relation or in proportion to something else.

quantitative

Relating to, measuring, or measured by the quantity (number) of something rather than its quality.

numerical evidence

Reliable data that is expressed in numerical form. Same as “quantitative evidence”. A comparison of two values is needed for evidence.

electromagnetic spectrum

The complete range of electromagnetic energy (light), categorized by wavelength.

The Big Bang Theory

A theory that states the universe was compacted into a space the size of an atom then underwent a rapid expansion.

spacial

Referring to a measurement or comparison of physical space. The arrangement of objects in space.
