Basic parts of the cell
nucleus, plasma/cell membrane (what encloses cell, lets things in/out through selective permeability), cytoplasm (jelly space in between)
What is mitochondria
site of energy production
what do ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, and golgi apparatus do?
make proteins
golgi apparatus function
processes proteins and lipid molecules
Lysosome function
digests and recycles old material
can destroy invading bacteria
nucleus purpose
holds genes that carry hereditary information
regulate activity of cell
nucleolus assembles RNA and protein into ribosomes
Ribosome purpose
synthesize protein (many found on rough ER) but some can be found in cytoplasm
Rough ER purpose
contains ribosomes and synthesizes + processes proteins in cell
Smooth ER
has NO ribosomes
synthesizes llipids in cell
inactivates toxins
vacuole purpose
storage for variety of elements (water, toxins, carbohydrates)
