Schleiden
Scientist who contributed to Cell Theory by determining that all plants are made of cells.
Schwann
Scientist who contributed to Cell Theory by determining that all animals are made of cells.
Hooke
Scientist who contributed to Cell Theory by establishing that cells are the basic unit of life.
Virchow
Scientist who contributed to Cell Theory by establishing that all cells come from pre-existing cells.
Characteristics of Life
The eight features defining life: made of cells, reproduce, acquire/use energy, grow/develop, respond to environment, homeostasis, genetic info, and adapt/evolve.
Levels of Organization
The biological structural hierarchy defined as: cell --> tissue ---> organ --> organ system --> organism.
Bacteriophage
A virus that infects bacteria.
Capsid
A structure present in all viruses that contains their genetic code (DNA or RNA).
Lytic Cycle
A viral reproductive cycle that immediately destroys host genome.
Lysogenic Cycle
A viral reproductive cycle that waits for cell to divide.
Viruses
Entities that have no cells, reproduce wi/HOST, have no energy, are built (not grown), have no response to environment, contain genetic info, and adapt/evolve.
