define potential divider
a series circuit with more than one resistor meant to divide the p.d. into a smaller specific p.d.

state the formula for Vout
Vout = (R2/(R1 + R2)) × Vin
p.d. across resistor two (V) = resistance of resistor two (Ω)/(resistance of resistor one (Ω) + resistance of resistor two (Ω)) × terminal p.d. (V)
state the relationship between the ratio of resistance and the ratio of p.d. between two resistors
ratio of R between two resistors = ratio of V across two resistors
state the formula for the resistance ratio and p.d. ratio
V1/V2 = R1/R2
p.d. across resistor one (V) / p.d. across resistor two (V) = resistance of resistor one (Ω) / resistance of resistor two (Ω)
