Vocabulary flashcards covering bone identification, bone classification types, associated joint types, and relative anatomical positions from the Bone Identification Lab Key.

Skull
A flat bone that forms fibrous joints; positioned superior to the thoracic cavity.

Sternum
A flat bone that forms cartilaginous joints; positioned medial to the ribs.

Rib
A flat bone that forms cartilaginous joints; positioned inferior to the skull.

Scapula

Clavicle
A long bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned anterior to the scapula.

Humerus
A long bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned lateral to the vertebra.

Radius
A long bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned lateral to the ulna.

Ulna
A long bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned inferior to the humerus.

Carpals
Short bones that form synovial joints; positioned superior to the metacarpals.
Metacarpals
Long bones that form synovial joints; positioned superior to the phalanges.

Phalanges (hand)
Long bones of the fingers that form synovial joints; positioned inferior to the radius.

Vertebra
An irregular bone that forms cartilaginous joints; positioned medial to the clavicles.

Femur
A long bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned inferior to the carpals.

Patella
An irregular bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned inferior to the femur.

Tibia
A long bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned inferior to the patella.

Fibula
A long bone that forms a synovial joint; positioned lateral to the tibia.

Pelvis
An irregular bone that forms synovial or cartilaginous joints; positioned superior to the fibula.

Coccyx
An irregular bone that forms fibrous joints; positioned medial to the pelvis.

Sacrum
An irregular bone that forms fibrous or cartilaginous joints; positioned superior to the coccyx.

Tarsals
Short bones that form synovial joints; positioned inferior to the sacrum.
Metatarsals
Long bones that form synovial joints; positioned distal to the tarsals.

Phalanges (foot)
Long bones of the toes that form synovial joints; positioned distal to the metatarsals.
