Skeletal Muscle Tissue
contracts under voluntary control move the body by pulling on bones
Cardiac Muscle Tissue
involuntary, found in heart when it contracts, blood is pumped through vessels
Smooth Muscle Tissue
involuntary, found in walks of hollow organs in digestive tract it moves fluids and solids as a lining in small arteries it regulates vessel diameter
Skeltal Muscle Functions and def
Produce Skeletal Movement- pull on tendons, move the bones
Support Soft Tissue- support weight of organs and shield tissues from injury
Maintain Posture and Body Position- stabilizes joints by tension in skeletal muscles to help maintain posture
Guard Entrances and Exits- sphinates encircle openings of digestive & urinary tracts
Maintain Body Temp- whenever energy is used in body some of its converted into heat, heat released by working muscles to keep body temp or normal range
Provide Nutrient Reserves- proteins in skeletal muscles are broken down into amino acids which are released
Order of Skeltal Muscle Structure
Muscle- fascicle-fiber
Epimysium
seperates muscle from surrounding tissues and organs, surrounds and protects entire skeletal muscle
Perimysium
contains blood vessels and nerves that maintain blood flow and innervate muscle fibers, groups skeltal muscle fibers into bunches
Endomysium
interconnects with muscle fibers, wraps around each skeletal muscle fiber
tendon
tough, fibrous connective tissue, connects skeltal muscle to bones, transmitting forces to produce movement
aponeurosis
broaf, flat sheet of dense fibrous connective tissue, anchors muscle to bone or other muscle
skeletal muscle
voluntary, striated muscle tissue attached to bones that drives conscious body movement, posture, body heat generation
muscle fascicle
bundle of skeletal muscle fibers wrapped tog in parallel arrangement by a protective tissue sheath; the perimysium
muscle fiber
single, long, cylindrical muscle that contracts to create movement
mysosatellite cell
adult stem cells found in skeletal muscle that is responsible for muscle regeneration, repair, growth
myoblast
embroyonic progenitor/ stem cell that diffrentates into a muscle cell
sarcolemma
specialized cell membrane, surrounds a stricted muscle fiber or cardiomyocyle
sarcoplasm
specialized cytoplasm of muscle cell/ fiber
Skeltal Muscle Functions- 6 names
Produce Skeletal Movement, Support Soft Tissue, Maintain Posture and Body Position, Guard Entrances and Exits,Maintain Body Temp, Provide Nutrient Reserves
