Stye symptoms
Bacterial infection
On the edge of eyelids near eyelash base
a red, sore, swollen eyelid
a watery eye
a feeling that there's something in your eye
a scratchy feeling in your eye
sensitivity to light.
A stye doesn’t usually affect your vision.
Causes of stye
Tiny eyelid glands getting blocked up
Self limiting??
Yes- goes away within 1-2 weeks
Treatment
Eyelid massage
Warm compress
Wipe the eyes with clear eyes wipes to keep the area clean and so that more bacteria won’t gather around that eye
Can use poly tears eye drops to help with irritation of eyes or to make the eye feel more comfortable
Self care
Don’t touch or burst stye
Wash hands before touching eye or siding contact lense
Wash face and remove makeup and don’t share makeup face cloths
Stye vs chalazion
Not bacterial infection
The eyelids glands get blocked (there are so many eyelid glands so you can get multiple)
Symptoms
tender but not painful or sore
The whole eye is not swollen
The chalazion is either up or down and usually not on the edge of the eyelids
Same self care and treatment
Might take weeks to months get rid of it
Dr may sometimes need to drain it
Referral Points
