Ability to go from G0 to G1
Example = Mammary gland (puberty) in g0 till puberty then g1
Steroid vs Peptide Hormones
Steroid Hormone can diffuse into cell crossing plasma membrane, don’t need a messenger can signal themselves as a transcription factor. Hydrophobic.
Peptide Hormone can’t cross membrane, binds to plasma membrane receptor, uses 2nd messenger.
Estrogen - Nuclear Hormone Receptor
Estrogen binds to Estrogen Receptor, ER dimerizes and creates an estrogen response element alongside coactivators, growth factor.
ER = Nuclear Hormone Receptor, DNA Binding Domain is a Zinc Finger
Tamoxifen competes with estrogen to bind ER, prevents dimerization.
Overactivation of ER correlated with breast cancer.
