[Top of Scene 2]
Hi Everyone.
KATIE: Yes indeedy!
Are you gonna do it like that?
KATIE: I’m not gonna do it like that.
Good.
AMY: We are SECTS!
S*x?
AMY: SECTS. Students Empowered to Confront and Transform Sexism
Um when did we come up with that?
KATIE: Yeah but calling ourselves SECTS feels a little…
Keep going.
TRACY: Great. So we are the Survivor Support Group and we work with the Men’s Peer Education group on three things.
And then you’ll hit go on the projector.
TRACY: And then I’ll hit go on the projector
And then you’ll say
AMY: Within the next five years.
Let’s not share that part publicly.
TRACY: Don’t you think it will seem a little cocky?
Essentially unrealistic?
KATIE: But we are actually making a plan to do that.
But we want them to take us seriously.
AMY: You sir, have been convicted of rape. And we’re going to through you in prison. For a long, long time!
Oh my god.
AMY: Sir, you gotta cut that out—no rape allowed in prison either!
Okay no.
KATIE and AMY: The Big Bad PATRIARCHY.
The policeman character is offensive.
KATIE: That wasn’t the end.
Police and prisons are real things in people’s lives—it’s a fucked system, we shouldn’t laugh at it.
AMY: I’m concerned about how long it’s taking us to get to the meat of the thing.
I hate it when you use that metaphor. Meat.
TRACY: I think we have the perfect mix of humor and real talk.
People need to be able to take the raw truth of what we’re doing.
TRACY: Seriously? South View?
What we do isn’t glamorous. It’s not for everyone. You have to really believe in sh*t to show up to our meetings. We’re not just like a resume booster for the wanna-be non-profit executives.
AMY: But we want people to actually SHOW UP.
Well that’s what this presentation is for! If we ever finish it.
KATIE: I thought it was for the administration. Like if we don’t do it they’re gonna take away our group status or something.
Well yeah it’s dual purpose.
TRACY: They, uh, they said that in order to keep getting funding and reserving a room and all that, we have to make a presentation for prospective students’ weekend.
Something about “giving back” to the community.
KATIE: Just us.
They don’t really believe we’re doing anything? Maybe?
KATIE: What?
I only write riot grrl angry feminist songs. You know that.
KATIE: You had that one kind of quiet sweet one.
About all the men in the world dying?
AMY: Yeah no.
I’m not really willing to dumb down my voice for this.
KATIE: I guess we’ll… come back to this?
Our presentation is in three weeks.
KATIE: YES TODAY TOO!
Three…two…one…JUSTICE!
