Frame
Main structure of the bike.

Move the chain between gears.

Cluster of rear gears.

Front gears attached to the pedals.

Crank Arms
Connect pedals to chainrings.
Saddle
The seat.
Seat Post
Supports the saddle.
Tyres
Provide grip and traction.
Wheels
Allow the bike to move.
Cadence
A comfortable pedalling speed.
Easy Gear
Combination of a small chainring at the front and a large cog at the back, best for climbing hills.
Hard Gear
Combination of a large chainring at the front and a small cog at the back, best for riding fast on flat or downhill sections.
Neutral Position
Body positioning used on flat trails and gentle turns featuring a slight bend in elbows and knees, eyes looking ahead, level feet, and weight centred over the bike.
Ready Position
Body positioning used on descents, rough terrain, and obstacles featuring standing on pedals, knees and elbows bent, hips slightly back, chest low, head up, and eyes forward.
Feathering Technique
A controlled technique used with the front brake to harness its stopping power without grabbing the brakes suddenly.
Carbohydrates
Nutrients provided by foods like toast, cereal, fruit, and pasta that give energy for riding when eaten before a ride.
