how does a double circulatory system work
vena cava- receives deoxygenated blood from the body
right atrium contracts
right ventricle contracts
pulmonary artery takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs
blood gets oxygenated in the lungs
pumonary vein carries blood from lungs to heart
left atrium contracts
left ventricle contracts
aorta carries blood away from the heart to the body
tissues and cells exchange gases and nutrients
what does the pulmonary artery do
transports deoxygenated blood to the lungs
what does the pulmonary vein do
transports oxygenated blood to the heart
what does aorta do
transports oxygenated blood from the heart to the body
what does the vena cava do
transports deoxygenated blood to heart
whats the advantages of a closed circulatory system
its efficient at transporting substances quickly at high pressure
what are the advantages of open circulatory system
it requires less energy for distribution
regulated body temperature better
no blood pressure means blood moves slowly
what are the disadvantages of an open circulatory system
not suitable for large animals - low pressure
blood distribution cant change
explain why a snake needs a heart
to pump blood to body cells
by mass transport
because it’s surface area to volume ratio does not allow diffusion to occur at a sufficient rate
