Transpiration
The process by which cuttings and scions lose most water.
Turgor
The state that cells must maintain adequately for cell division.
Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD)
Rate of water loss from leaves, influenced by temperature and humidity.
Fog System
A propagation water management system that uses very fine water droplets of ~15 μm that remain suspended for long periods to maximise air vapor pressure by raising the humidity.
Micromist System
A propagation water management system that uses droplets sizes that range from 2-100 μm with an average droplet size of 40 μm.
Mist System
A propagation water management system that lowers ambient air temperature which lowers leaf temperature, requires covered structures.
Intermitted Mist
Lowers ambient air temperature which lowers leaf temperature (lowering VPD). Also cools the medium and bottom heat may be needed to promote good root growth. Mist is most effective in covered structures
Hardening Off
The process of adapting plants from a protected environment to harsher outdoor conditions.
Etiolation
The process where plants are prevented from hardening off and can take 1-3 weeks to harden depending on the conditions.
