BMR
Minimal amount of energy required by an endothermic animal each day to maintain homeostasis (in the absence of factors that would affect energy expenditure)
Factors which would affect energy expenditure include
respiration
circulation
nerve function
cellular maintenance
kidney/liver function
Basal metabolic heat production =
heat lost to the environment

What states have lower metabolic rate than BMR
sleeping
starvation and/or dehydration (prolonged)
hibernation
torpo

Placental and marsupial mammals BMRs
Certain low metabolic value feeding habits
Less cold temperature tolerant
Short gestation time

BMR of Vertebrate eater mammals

BMR of invertebrate eater mammals

BMR of frugivore mammals

BMR of Nectarivore mammals

BMR of grazer mamals

BMR of folivore mammals

BMR of passerine and non-passerine birds

How to determine BMR from O2 consumption
BMR (kcal/day) = resting O2 consumption (ml/hr) x 0.0048 (kcal/ml O2) x 24 hrs
1 cm3 of O 2 = 1 ml
