Organic chemistry
The study of the compounds of carbon, which deals with the relationship between molecular structure and properties.
Carbon
The principal element that makes up an organic compound.
Proteins
Organic chemicals that make up our hair, skin, and muscles.
Nucleic acids (RNA and DNA)
Organic chemicals that control our genetic heritage.
Substances excluded from organic chemistry
Carbon-bearing substances not considered under organic chemistry, specifically including hydrogen cyanide, the carbonates, and ammonium cyanate.
Lewis structures
Electron dot notation used to represent atoms, ions, and molecules.
