Pepsinogen → Pepsin (Stomach)
Pepsinogen is denatured (opens up) when exposed to HCl (Has to occur in a HCl/acidic environment
It autoclaves itself
Is now active pepsin
[ HCl does not activate or autoclaves it but is still required for the transition from pepsinogen to pepsin ]
Trypsin (Pancreatic)
Produced as trypsinogen
Trypsinogen → Trypsin (activated by enterokinase from SI)
Once activated, remaining trypsinogen is activated trysin
[ Trypsinogen: Produced in the pancreas then released into the duodenum ]
[ Only the first batch of trypsinogen is activated by enterokinase. It is then activated by trypsin ]
Chymotrypsin (Pancreatic)
Produced as chymotrypsinogen
Chymotrypsinogen →Chymotrypsin (activated by trypsin)
Carboxypeptidase (Pancreatic)
Produced as procarboxypeptidase
Procarboxypeptidase → Carboxypeptidase (activated by trypsin)
Pepsin, trypsin, and chymotrypsin
Endopeptidases or Exopeptidases
Endopeptidases
Carboxypeptidase andaminopeptidase
Endopeptidases or Exopeptidases
Exopeptidases
Where does trypsin, chymotrypsin, and carboxypeptidase take place in?
The duodenum
