demographic transition phase 1
high birth rate, high death rate: initial low growth phase, wide base and deeply inward, pre industrial societies
Phase 2 demographic transition
High birth rate and declining death rate, not yet fully industrialized, still kinda rural and agrarian. kinda more stable triangle
Phase 3 demographic transition
declining birth rate and low death rate, higher life expectancy, urbanization increases as society becomes more industrialized.
Stage 4 demographic transition
Higher literacy rates, population isnt rapidly growing, death and brith rates are moderate, small family size, kinda looks like a cylinder or rectangle
Demo graph phase 5
Birth rates are lower than death rates, population is declining strongly, aging boom because healthcare is top tier. eg: japan, kinda shaped like a kite
1st and 2nd agricultural rev
1st was the neolithic rev and 2nd was industrialization
Ecumene
Portion of the earths surface that i occupied by human settlement
Arithmetic population density, Physiological population density
Arithmetic is when people are spread evenly acorss the land, incredibly misleading. For eg, all that land in egypt but everyones crammed near the nile river. total pop/ total land area.
Physiological is total pop/arable land. tells u the carrying capacity. hi physiological denisity= less land many mouths to feed,
demographic accounting equation
( births - deaths ) + ( Immigrants - Emigrants )
Thomas malthus, Neo malthusians
Malthus believed that primary crisis would be of food, population would outrun food carrying capacity, Neo malthusians say that all resources would run out not just food
Pronatalist policies, antinatalsit policies,
pronatalist= encouraging increasing the birthrate and fertility of the country and antinatalaist is opposite
eugenic pop policy
erase racial traits desirable and undesirable traits.
Rate of natural increase
(crude birth rate) - (Crude death rate ) / 10
Infant mortality rate, Total fertility rate
Infant mortality rate (IMR) is the number of deaths of infants under one year of age per 1,000 live births in a given year. Total fertility rate (TFR) is the average number of children a woman will give birth to during her childbearing years (typically ages 15 to 49
Doubling time formula
70/RNI
Epidemiological transition model
what the primary causes of death are and how they evolve economically and medically
Global pop, CBR, CDR, RNI
global population: 8.3 billion people, cbr: 16.0 - 17.0 cdr :7.8 - 7.9, RNI: 0.8, Indias pop is growing steadily, china population declining, nigeria growing hella
4-5 world population concentration
East asia, south asia, Europe, southeast asia
Ravensteins law of migration
1) Most migrants travel short over long 2) Young single men 3) Economic factors are the primary drives
Sun belt vs rust belt
sun belt sorta south all the way to cali, rust belt kinda northeast, sun belt pop growing, rust belt popluation stagnation, south the region pulled in millions of workers looking for jobs in tech and defense, retirees seeking warm weather, and international immigrants moving across the southern border.
Interregional migration
For eg, rust belt to sun belt, colder to warmer, changes in geographical location withtin country, rural to urban,
The gravity model
Population of city a x population of city b / the distance between them
brain drain
Brain drain is when a country's smartest and most educated people pack up and leave for a richer country.
intervening obstacle intervening opportunity
Like a road block, intervening oppurtunity A better off opportunity when you are looking for something else.
