the 7 domains are:
professionalism, communication, cultural safety, critical thinking, scientific and clinical knowledge, pt care and community oral health
Professionalism
Put pts and whanau first, respect autonomy, confidentiality and complaints, and keep public trust. Practise within nz law and the dc standards framework, understand te tiriti, protect tamariki from suspected abuse or neglect, and reflect on your practice and keep learning
communication
communicate respectfully, honestly, and in a culturally appropriate way. Listen, spot communication barriers, make sure pts understand their condition and options, and communicate openly with colleagues and other health providers
Cultural safety
Apply te tiriti (as described in Wai 2575) and maori view of hauora to your practice. Understand tino rangatiratanga, equity, active protection, options and partnership, and the impact of racism and colonisation on maori oral health. Reflect on your own biases and the power imbalance with pts. The pt and whanau decide what “culturally safe” means to them
Critical thinking
apply current science, critically evaluate research (including matauranga maori), assess new techniques, materials and technologies, and recognise your own limits
Scientific and clinical knowledge
know head and neck anatomy, oral disease, systemic disease and oral health, growth and tooth development, infection control, pharmacology, dental materials, and radiography
Community oral health
understand the nz oral health system and social determinants of health. Engage maori communities, and design, deliver and evaluate oral health promotion projects with whanau, hapu, iwi and other professionals
