Axial Skeleton

Form the central supporting axis of the body (supports and protects)

• Skull

• Auditory ossicles

• hyoid bone

• vertebral column

• Thoracic cage (ribs and sternum)

Appendicular Skeleton

(allows mobility by comparing) Includes the

• bones of the upper limb

• lower limb

• pectoral girdle

• pelvic girdle

The Skull

• Composed of 22 bones and sometimes more

• Connected by immovable joints called sutures

• Have foramina, allowing for passage of nerves and blood vessels
