What do you need to consider when you want to deploy a cloud-based application?

Who will be accessing the application and from where

2
New cards

What are the three types of cloud models?

Software as a service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and Platform as a service (PaaS)

3
New cards

How does SaaS work?

After you log in on a browser, you have access to the application. Someone else wrote the application, manages it, and your data is stored somewhere within that application.

4
New cards

Benefit of SaaS?

You don’t have to do anything to be able to use the application. No local installation, no managing/updating the software

5
New cards

What are examples of SaaS?

Google Mail, Office 365

6
New cards

When is IaaS good?

When you want your own application, to deploy/manage your own data, and all you really need are the computing resources to be able to run that application

7
New cards

What is another name for IaaS and why?

Hardware as a service (HaaS), you’re outsourcing your equipment

8
New cards

What are you responsible for in an IaaS cloud model?

Installing/managing the software, managing all the data associated with it, security measures

9
New cards

What is an example of Iaas?

A web server provider where you can buy time on a particular web server and they make that server available to anyone on the internet

10
New cards

How does PaaS work?

No servers, no software, no maintenance team, no HVAC. Someone else handles the platform, you handle the development/customization of the application

11
New cards

What do you not have control over in a PaaS cloud model?

No direct control of the data, people (trained security professionals are watching your stuff), or infrastructure

12
New cards

What is an example of PaaS?

SalesForce.com: They give you all the resources to create a custom application running on their platform

13
New cards

In the cloud responsibility matrix what is ALWAYS customer managed?

Information and data, Devices (Mobile and PCs), Accounts and Identities

14
New cards

In the cloud responsibility matrix what is sometimes customer managed and sometimes provider managed for SaaS?

Identity and Directory Infrastructure

15
New cards

In the cloud responsibility matrix what is provider managed for SaaS?

Applications, Network Controls, Operating Systems, Physical Hosts, Physical Network, Physical Datacenter

16
New cards

In the cloud responsibility matrix what is sometimes customer managed and sometimes provider managed for PaaS?

Identity and Directory Infrastructure, Applications, Network Controls

17
New cards

In the cloud responsibility matrix what is provider managed for PaaS?

Operating Systems, Physical Hosts, Physical Network, Physical Datacenter

18
New cards

In the cloud responsibility matrix what else is customer managed for IaaS?
