Case
A unit of observation that data is collected about, typically represented as a row in a data table.
Variable
A characteristic that is recorded for each case, corresponding to the columns in a data table.
Categorical Variable
A variable that divides cases into groups, with each case belonging to exactly one of two or more categories.
Quantitative Variable
A variable that measures or records a numerical quantity for each case.
Explanatory Variable
The variable that is used to help understand or predict the values of another variable.
Response Variable
The variable that is affected or measured in response to changes in the explanatory variable.
