Cell differentiation
The process by which cells change to become specialised for their job.
Stem cells
Undifferentiated cells that can produce lots more undifferentiated cells and differentiate into different types of cell.
Embryonic stem cells
Stem cells found in early human embryos that can turn into any kind of cell at all.
Bone marrow

Adult stem cells
Stem cells found only in certain places in the adult body (like bone marrow) that can only produce certain types of specialised cell, such as blood cells.
Cloned stem cells
Stem cells copied in a lab from embryos or bone marrow that can be used in medicine or research.
