Network topology
The structural arrangement and method of connecting devices within a network.
Star topology
A network layout where each device connects to a central switch; easy to fault-find, but completely vulnerable to a switch failure.
Bus topology
A network layout where all devices link to a single central backbone cable; inexpensive to install, but failure of the backbone halts the whole network.
Ring topology
A network layout where each device connects to two neighbors in a circular path; maintains organized data flow, but a single link failure disrupts the entire system.
Mesh topology
A network layout featuring multiple interconnected pathways between devices; offers high reliability through redundant paths, but involves high cost and complexity.
