Our empire is a centralized autocracy, with the tsar holding the highest political and military authority.
The boyars, our wealthy noble class, traditionally held significant influence, but rulers such as Ivan the Fourth and Peter the Great strengthened the authority of the tsar and reduced their political power.
Our military has been essential to expanding and protecting our vast territory. Under Peter the Great, we modernized our army and built a powerful navy, helping Russia become a stronger European power.
We also justify the tsar’s authority through Orthodox Christianity and divine rule, while hereditary succession allows our empire to maintain stability and continuity.
As our empire expanded across Eurasia, we brought many different peoples and cultures under our rule.
We used assimilation to gradually integrate some conquered peoples into our society through our language, administration, and Orthodox Christianity.
We also allowed some local elites to maintain their positions as long as they recognized the authority of the tsar. Settlements and military outposts helped us strengthen our control over newly acquired territories
Our empire also depends on a large labor force. Serfs provide much of our agricultural labor, while peasants can also be required to work on mines, roads, and shipyards, especially under Peter the Great.
Through our expansion, we have gained not only more territory, but also greater access to resources and labor that strengthen our empire.
