Potassium Chlorate (KClO3)
A chemical compound contained in match heads that acts as an oxidizing agent.
Antimony Sulfide
A highly flammable material contained in match heads.
Match Head Components
Includes potassium chlorate (KClO3), highly flammable materials such as antimony sulfide, adhesives, and glass powder or sand.
Friction Surface Components
The surface located on both sides of a safety match box, containing red phosphorus, adhesives, and glass powder or sand.
White Phosphorus
A substance formed when friction heat converts a small amount of red phosphorus, igniting spontaneously in the air to produce thermal energy.
Potassium Chloride (KCl)
A product formed along with oxygen gas (O2) when potassium chlorate decomposes due to heat from burning phosphorus.
Ignition Temperature
The temperature at which a substance begins to burn.
Combustion
A chemical reaction between a substance and oxygen that produces heat, light, or both, and new substances that vary depending on the type of substance being burned.
