Vocabulary flashcards defining fundamental statistical measures—mode, mean, range, and median—along with their calculation methods based on the lecture notes.
Mode
The most frequent value in a data set, determined by counting how many times each value appears. A data set can have more than one mode.
Mean
The average or norm, calculated by adding up all of the values to find a total and dividing the total by the number of values added together.
Range
The difference between the lowest and the highest value, found by identifying the highest and lowest values and subtracting the lowest value from the highest.
Median
The middle number in a data set, found by putting the numbers in order from smallest to largest and covering up one number on each end until reaching the middle.
