what is lewins 3 step change model?
a model that businesses can use to implement effective change it consists of 3 steps unfreeze, change and refreeze
what is unfreeze?
this step involves preparing the business for change. it involves breaking the status quo to prepare a business for change. involves identify what needs to change, create urgency by placing current issues 'on the table', and clearly communicating the process, benefits, and action plan to stakeholders while offering direct support to ease employee resistance.
what is change?
Involves moving the business from its current situation to the new situation by altering processes, policies, and practices. management keeps communication transparent to dispel rumors and provides ongoing support and training to reduce employee resistance. Key staff are empowered to lead the transition, ensuring all relevant people are involved for a smoother implementation.
what is refreeze?
this step stabilises and institutionalises the change to make it sustainable, preventing staff from reverting to old behaviours and outdated practices. Management embeds the changes into the business culture by rewriting policies, celebrating successes, and continuing to support employees who remain uncertain or resistant
