Drill Press
Used to drill accurate holes.
Safety for Drill Press
Keep drill bits and machine clean, keep guards and clamps in place, lubricate the drill bit when drilling metal, support underside of the stock.
Miter Saw
Used to cut straight lines and miter angles.
Safety for Miter Saw
Wear respiratory protection, keep one hand at least 6 inches away from the blade.
Table Saw
Used to cut straight lines and smooth cuts on small and long boards.
Crosscut vs. Rip Cut
Crosscut refers to cutting across the grain, while rip cut refers to cutting with the grain.
Safety for Table Saw
Always use rip fence for rip cuts, use miter gauge for crosscuts, keep material flat against the table, adjust the fence when power is off.
Bandsaw
Used to cut wood and metal stock.
Safety for Bandsaw
Keep hands at least 2 inches from the blade, never start the bandsaw with the workpiece against the blade, hold the workpiece firmly.
Spindle Sander
Grinds stuff down with sandpaper at an angle and/or with a curve.
Safety for Spindle Sander
Mark the workpiece, choose the right drum size, attach sandpaper, and use heavy gloves and a dust mask.
Belt/Disc Sander
Disc sander for smaller projects, belt sander for shaping, trimming, and leveling larger projects.
Safety for Belt/Disc Sander
Use both hands while sanding, sand towards the outer area of the disc for quick sanding.
Drum Sander
Used to sand down large pieces or finish multiple pieces of wood quickly.
Safety for Drum Sander
Roll up sleeves, tie hair back, wear hearing protection.
