Data Sleuthing Framework
A structure for critiquing research and articles used to develop personal research.
Population Parameters
Characteristics of a population that cannot be computed without a complete census.
Sample
A collection of units taken from a population to estimate population parameters.
Sampling Frame
A list of units from which a sample is drawn.
Census
A survey that measures the entire population.
Margin of Error
The range within which the true value of a population parameter is expected to lie, based on a sample.
Simple Random Sample
A sampling method where every individual has an equal chance of being selected.
Destructive Sampling
Sampling method that destroys the unit being tested, making a census infeasible.
Confidence Interval
A range of values derived from a sample that is likely to contain the true population parameter.
Representative Sample
A sample that accurately reflects the characteristics of the population from which it is drawn.
Survey Measurement
The process of collecting data on a specific question from a sample of the population.
Response Rate
The percentage of individuals who complete a survey from those selected.
Observational Studies
Research methods that involve observing subjects without manipulating variables.
Randomized Experiments
Research methods that involve randomly assigning subjects to different treatments to test outcomes.
