Bicep Curl
An exercise involving the humerus, radius, and ulna bones, the elbow (synovial hinge) joint, flexion movement, and the biceps brachii, brachialis, and brachioradialis muscles.
Squat
An exercise involving the femur, tibia, fibula, and pelvis bones, hip (ball-and-socket), knee (hinge), and ankle (hinge) joints, hip/knee flexion & extension movements, and the gluteus maximus, quadriceps, and hamstrings muscles.
Push-Up
An exercise involving the humerus, scapula, radius, and ulna bones, the shoulder and elbow joints, elbow extension and shoulder horizontal adduction movements, and the pectoralis major, triceps, and anterior deltoid muscles.
Lateral Raise
An exercise involving the humerus, scapula, and clavicle bones, the shoulder (ball-and-socket) joint, abduction movement, and the deltoid and supraspinatus muscles.
Calf Raise
An exercise involving the tibia, fibula, talus, and calcaneus bones, the ankle hinge joint, plantar flexion movement, and the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles.
Neuromuscular Junction
The site where peripheral motor neurons release acetylcholine, leading to the contraction of muscle fibers and the occurrence of movement.
Acetylcholine
The chemical substance released by peripheral motor neurons at the neuromuscular junction that prompts muscle fibers to contract.
Nervous System Motor Pathway
The movement control process where the brain plans movement, the spinal cord relays signals, peripheral motor neurons release acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, and muscle fibers contract to produce movement.
