central cord syndrome

damage in center of spinal cord —> greater weakness in upper limbs than lower

Brown-Sequard syndrome

damage to one side of spinal cord —> impaired loss of movement but preserved sensation on one side of body and vice versa on other side

anterior cord syndrome

characterized by damage to front of spinal cord —> impaired temperature, touch, and pain sensations below point of injury proprioception preserved

posterior cord syndrome

damage to back of spinal cord —> good muscle power, pain and temperature sensation, poor coordination and proprioception

conus medullaris syndrome

combination or UMN and LMN symptoms + variable motor loss to LE

cauda equina syndrome:

injury to lumbosacral nerve roots within neural canal

• characterized by LMN symptoms (areflexic bladder, bowel and lower limbs)

what is areflexic?

flaccid, with referring to bladder (unable to empty on own)
