Animal cell structure
No chloroplasts (cant do photosynthesis)
Multicellular
No cell wall (unlike plant cells)
What can animals usually do?
Usually have nervous co-ordination
usually can move from one place to another
Store carbohydrates as glycogen
(Examples, Mammals-Human Insects-Mosquito)
Plant cell structure
multicellular
have chloroplasts so do photosynthesis
have a cell wall made of cellulose
Plant functions
Store carbohydrates as starch or sucrose
Cellulose provides strength and stability
Examples of plants: Cereal-maize and Herbaceous-Legume: Peas and Beans
Fungi Cell structure
Can be both uni or multicellular
No chloroplasts - can’t do photosynthesis
Have a cell wall made of chitin (chitin provides strength rigidity and support)
What do Fungi’s do?
Do Saprotrophic nutrition
Store carbohydrates as glycogen
Examples of Fungi : Classic hyphal structure - mucor and unicellular - yeast
What is saprotrophic nutrition?
The process in which bacteria or fungi obtain nutrients by breaking down and absorbing organic matter from dead and decaying organisms
What are Eukaryotes?
A cell that contains a true membrane bound nucleus and other organelles examples are Animals, Fungi, Plants and Protoctists (protists)
