Zimmerman Note

In January 1917, German official Arthur Zimmerman sent a telegram to the German ambassador in Mexico promising to return “lost territory in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona” if Mexico allied with Germany. This was intercepted and sent to American newspapers, angering America.
