Mileage Allowance

An allowance calculated on the distance travelled to meet the cost of a particular journey.

Shortest or Cheapest Route Rule

The principle that the journey between two places is held to have been performed by the shortest of the two or more particular routes or by the cheapest of such routes.

Competent Authority

The entity responsible for deciding any case of doubt regarding the shortest of two or more routes and fixing the point at which a journey commences or ends.

Point of Commencement or End

The chief public office in any station, or such other point as may be fixed for the purpose by a competent authority, where a journey is held to start or finish.
