Extreme hot or cold; eye strain looking thru blurry windows; holding on maintaining balance; Stress; noise; sun; poor physical condition; lack of sleep; boredom; also - motion sickness; rain or snow; boats vibration.
State crew responsibility and policy regarding fatigue
Watch each other‘s condition. Note each members ability to respond to normal conversation. Report the situation to Cox'n.
State primary symptoms of fatigue
Inability to concentrate/narrow attention span; mental confusion or judgment error; decreased coordination of motor skills/seeing and hearing; increased irritability; decreased performance; decreased concern for safety.
State prevention measures for fatigue
Adequate rest; appropriate dress for weather; rotate crew; provide suitable food/refreshments; observe other crewman for signs of fatigue.
Stated common fuels and primary extinguishing agent for class A fire
Common combustibles - Wood; paper; clothing; dry paint - primary water (solids) Also all combustible solid materials, such as rubber, and many plastics including the fiberglass reinforced plastic used for Decks and hulls.
Stated common fuels and primary extinguishing agent for class B fire

Stated common fuels and primary extinguishing agent for class C fire
Energized electrical equipment - Radio; radar; lights - primary CO2 or halon (electrical fires) Also, class C fires are identified for their potential to electrocute or shock personnel if conducting water-base extinguishing agents are applied. Turning off the electricity will change the status of a class C fire to a class A and/or B fire.
Stated, fuels and primary extinguishing agent for class D fire
Metals - magnesium; titanium; potassium; sodium; phosphates - primary - water; sand; special dry powder
Explain safety precautions needed when using CO2 or Halon
CO2 dilutes the oxygen that you need to breathe. Halon changes to a dangerous chemical when applied to a fire.
ABC rated extinguishers, commonly called multi-purpose or tri-class extinguishers are capable of what? American Boat and Yacht council recommends that ABC multi-purpose extinguishers be used in most instances on what? What is a drawback of using the ABC units?
• are capable of fighting all three classes of fire. • on boats under 65’ • the ABC units have the drawback of often ruining equipment, but because the priority is on safety and the overall effectiveness of the extinguishing agent, these are still recommended
State what is Crew Endurance Management (CEM) is based on.
CEM enables crewmen to manage risk factors that lead to human error, and degrade performance. Risk factors include: Lack of sleep, changing schedule, high workload, poor diet, stress.
State the requirements for Underway Time Computation.
Underway time starts when the lines are cast off and ends when the lines are put over when mooring. When at Anchor U/W time is 50%. Fatigue time starts when you arrive and start prepping the Boat. Trailering time is counted as 50% Fatigue time.
State underway limits set for vessels by District, Sector or Station.
Vessel < 30’ seas
