What is newtons first law?

A resultant is needed to make something start moving, speed up, slow down or change direction. So an object will remain stationary or moving at a constant velocity unless a resultant force acts upon it.

Zero resultant force

• If the resultant force on a stationary object is zero, the object will remain stationary.

• If the resultant force on a moving object is zero, it’ll just carry on moving at the same velocity.

Non-zero resultant force

If there is no-zero resultant force on an object, its velocity will change (it will accelerate in the direction of the force)

When a resultant force acts on an object, what is the change in velocity that is experiences?

• Starting

• Stopping

• Changing direction

• Speeding up

• Slowing down
