Assonance
The repetition of vowel sounds in closely placed words.
Antithesis
A rhetorical device that contrasts two opposing ideas.
Apposition
A grammatical construction in which a noun or noun phrase is placed next to another noun for explanation or clarification.
Anadiplosis
A rhetorical repetition of a word or phrase at the end of one sentence and the beginning of the next.
Anaphora
The deliberate repetition of the first part of the sentence to achieve an artistic effect.
Anastrophe
The inversion of the usual order of words or phrases.
Asyndeton
The omission of conjunctions between parts of a sentence.
Polysyndeton
The use of several conjunctions in close succession, especially where they are not strictly necessary.
Euphemism
A mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt.
Apophasis
The rhetorical device of mentioning something by stating that it will not be mentioned.
