How do plants absorb water for photosynthesis?
Through the roots
How do plants absorb carbon dioxide?
through the leaves
How do plants get energy to do photosynthesis?
From sunlight
What absorbs light energy for photosynthesis?
Chlorophyll
What are the ingredients of photosynthesis?
Water and carbon dioxide
What are the products of photosynthesis?
Glucose and oxygen
What is the process of photosynthesis?
Plants use light energy to transform water and carbon dioxide into glucose and oxygen
What is the equation to photosynthesis?

What element makes up carbon dioxide?
Carbon and oxygen
What elements make up glucose?
Carbon, Hydrogyn, and oxygen
Autotroph/producer
Can make there own food using energy from sunlight
Heterotroph/consumer
Get energy by consuming other organisms
Where does photosynthesis occur?
The leafs
What are the parts of the leaf?
Cuticle: The outer surface of a leaf has a thin waxy coating that helps prevent water loss
Epidermis: Cells located below the cuticle protects internal tissues, control water loss, and regulate gas exchange
Stoma: Pores in the leaf to let in carbon dioxide and let out oxygen
Guard cells: Located around the stoma; open and close the stoma for gas exchange
Mesophyll cells: Located near the surface of the leaf and contain lots of chloroplasts it converts light energy into chemical energy
Palisade mesophyll: Contains most of the chloroplasts collum chaped below the upper epidermis
Spongy mesophyll: Irregular-shaped cells located closer to the lower epidermis
The order of parts of the leaf
Upper cuticle, upper epidermis, palisade mesophyll, vein, spongy mesophyll, lower epidermis, guard cells and stroma, lower cuticle
Which to tissues are found in the vein?
Xylem and phloem
What does the word mesophyll mean
middle leaf
What two layers of the plant contain chloroplasts?
Paliside and spongy
What is the outermost layer of cells?
Epidermis
What is the waxy covering of the leaf?
Cuticle
What cells open and close the stomata?
Guard cells
What are the column like cells that lie just under the epidermis?
Palisade mesophyll
What is a opening that allowed for gas exchange?
Stoma
Which layer of cells does photosynthesis occur?
Cytoplasm
What are 3 differences between the cells of the palisade mesophyll and the cells that make up the other areas of the leaf?
Shape, chloroplast density, and how packed they are
What is inside the mesophyll cell?
The chloroplast
Parts of a chloroplast
Thylakoid space: gel filled space inside the thylakoid sac
Stroma: gel filled space inside the chloroplast surrounding thylakoid sac
Thylakoids: Sac like photosynthetic membranes inside the chloroplast
Cytoplasm: gel filled space outside chloroplast but inside the cell membrane
Granum: Stack of thylakoids
Where is the chlorophyll?
In the membranes of thylakoids
What types of cells contain chloroplasts?
Plant cells and algae
What is the energy autotrophs use to make their own food?
Turn sunlight into chemical energy
What simple sugar is produced?
Glucose
Where are most photosynthetic cells in plants found?
The mesophyll
How many chloroplasts can be found in photosynthetic cells?
Thousands
How many membranes surround a chloroplast?
2
