Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
A technique used to amplify a specific sequence of DNA through in vitro DNA synthesis reactions.
Taq Polymerase
A heat-resistant DNA polymerase extracted from the bacterium Thermus aquaticus, used in PCR.
Denaturing
The first step in PCR where DNA strands separate at 95°C.
Annealing
The second step in PCR where primers bind to the template DNA at 55°C.
Extension
The third step in PCR where new DNA strands are synthesized at 72°C.
PCR Components
Includes template DNA, nucleotides, PCR buffer, magnesium chloride, primers, and DNA polymerase.
Thermus aquaticus
A bacterial species that produces heat-resistant DNA polymerase, allowing it to survive in hot springs.
