These are my vocab for basic religious vocabulary for IB World Religions.

transcendence

a spiritual state of rising above material desires and connecting with a higher reality or God

Omnipotent

all powerful

omniscient

all knowing

sacred

set apart for worship of a deity or as worthy of worship

secular

wordly, not spiritual or religious

eschatology

the study of the end of the world

adherent

someone who subscribes to a specific way of thinking

scriptures

sacred writings a sacred scroll or book

ritual

prescribed religious ceremonies

rite of passage

a prescribed ceremonial act or series of acts. The sign that a person is passing from one stage of life to another.

doctrine (vs. belief)

a formal set of belfies, principles or teachings. The body of religious tenants. Focused on a greater organization that creates them where as belief is more focused on the believer.

agnosticism

I don’t know whether there’s God/s

atheism

There is no person-like god/s

polytheism

there are two or more person-like gods

monotheism

there is one god

ineffable

something too great, intense or sacred to be expressed or described in words
