O: Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine

Insertion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament

Action: All four heads extend leg at knee joint

Vastus Laateralis

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Greater Trochanter and Linea Aspera of femur

Insertsion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament

Action: All four heads extend leg at knee joint

Innervation: Femoral Nerve

Vastus Intermedius

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Anterior and Lateral surfaces of body of femur

Insertion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament

Action: All four heads extend leg at knee joint

Innervation: Femoral Nerve

Vastus Medialis 

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Linea Aspera of Femur

Insertion: Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament

Action: All four heads extend leg at knee joint

Innervation: Femoral Nerve

Tensor Fasciae Latae

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Lateral surface of anterior iliac crest and anterior superior iliac spine.

Insertion: Tibia by way of iliotibial tract.

Action: Flexes and abducts hip joint.

Innervation: Superior gluteal nerve.

Satorius

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Anterior superior iliac spine.

Insertion: Medial surface of body of tibia.

Action: Weakly flexes leg at knee joint; weakly flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates thigh at hip joint.

Innervation: Femoral nerve.

Iliacus 

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Iliac fossa and sacrum.

Insertion: With psoas major into lesser trochanter of femur.

No Action

Innervation: Femoral nerve

Psoas Major Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Transverse processes and bodies of lumbar vertebrae.

Insertion: With iliacus into lesser trochanter of femur.

Action: Psoas major and iliacus muscles acting together flex thigh at hip joint, rotate thigh laterally, and flex trunk on hip as in sitting up from supine position.

Innervation: Lumbar spinal nerves L2–L3.

Pectineus

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Superior ramus of pubis.

Insertion: Pectineal line of femur, between lesser trochanter and linea aspera.

Action: Flexes and adducts thigh at hip joint.

Innervation: Femoral nerve.

Adductor Brevis

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Inferior ramus of pubis.

Insertion: Superior half of linea aspera of femur.

Action: Adducts and flexes thigh at hip joint and rotates thigh.*

Innervation: Obturator nerve.

Adductor Longus 

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Pubic crest and pubic symphysis.

Insertion: Linea aspera of femur.

Action: Adducts and flexes thigh at hip joint and rotates thigh.*

Innervation: Obturator nerve.

Adductor Magnus

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Inferior ramus of pubis and ischium to ischial tuberosity.

Insertion: Linea aspera of femur.

Adducts thigh at hip joint and rotates thigh; anterior part flexes thigh at hip joint, and posterior part extends thigh at hip joint.*

Obturator and tibial nerve from sciatic nerve.

Gracilis

Origin, Insertion, Action, Innervation

O: Lower half of the body of the pubis; inferior ramus of the pubis and a small adjacent portion of the ischial ramus

Insertion: Anteromedial surface of the proximal tibia just below the medial condyle; fascia of the leg; attaches slightly proximal to the semitendinosus and just behind the sartorius

Action: Flexes the knee and adducts the hip joint

Innervation: Obturator nerve
