Iris
gives the color of our eyes and contracts the pupil
Choroid
provides nutrients and oxygen to our eyes, located between the retina and sclera
Ciliary Body
holds the lens in place
Retina
internal layer (light sensitive tissue is the back of the eye) that goes all around and holds the receptors in the eye
Rods
photoreceptors that detects light and dark and is very sensitive to low level light in the eye
Cones
photoreceptors that detects colors in the eye
Back of Retina
where the photoreceptors are located
Fovea
densely saturated with cone photoreceptors
Blind Spot (Optic Disk)
no photoreceptors located where the optic nerve and blood vessels leave the eyeball
Pathway of Visual Information
stimulus of light, photoreceptors, optic nerve, visual cortex, interpretation
Orbital Rim
where the eye is inserted or located in the head
Bony Orbit
a cushion of fat and walls that enclose and protect the eye
Color Blindness
a genetic condition caused by a difference in how one or more of the light sensitive cells found in the retina of the eye respond to certain colors
Mild color Blindness
when all 3 color sensing cones are present, but one cone cell does not work properly
Severe Color Blindness
when all 3 color sensing cones are absent, not working, or detects a different color than normal
Lens
focuses the light into the retina
Tapetum
a second lining that helps you see better in the dark
