Clavicle
S shaped bone that connects the pectoral girdle to the axial skeleton by the sternum
Acromial end
End of clavicle that articulates with the scapula
Sternal end
End of clavicle that articulates with the sternum
Scapula
Shoulder blade; connects the arm to the clavicle
Superior angle
The medial/superior corner of the scapula
Lateral angle
The lateral, thickest part of the scapula
Inferior angle
The inferior corner of the scapula
Superior boarder
The edge of the scapula that runs along the top portion of the bone
Lateral boarder
The edge of the scapula that runs inferior to the lateral angle
Medial boarder
The edge of the scapula that runs inferior to the superior angle
Subscapular Fossa
Depression that covers majority of the scapula facing the ribs
Coracoid process
hook shaped protuberance from scapula that acts as an anchor point for muscles and ligaments
Acromion
Bony projection that articulates with the clavicle
Scapular spine
bony ridge off scapula that is a muscular anchor point
Supraspinous fossa
The depression superior to the scapular spine
Infraspinous fossa
The depression inferior to the scapular spine
Glenoid fossa
Depression directly inferior to the acromion of the scapula; forms the socket of the shoulder joint
Humerus
upper arm bone; articulates with scapula to make shoulder
Head of Humerus
rounded top part of humerus that articulates with the scapula to make shoulder joint
Greater Tubercle
Larger projection next to the head of the humerus
Lesser Tubercle
Smaller projection next to the head of the humerus
Bicipital Groove
found between tubercles
Surgical neck
the narrow part between the head/tubercles and the shaft
Anatomical Neck
holds the head to rest of the bone
Deltoid Tuberosity
slight protuberance midway down shaft
Lateral Epicondyle
lateral protrubance on the distal end of the humerus
Medial Epicondyle
Medial protuberance on the distal end of the humerus
Capitulum
Small rounded protuberance on the distal end of the humerus, lateral side; articulates with the radius
Trochlea
Spool shaped protuberance at the distal end of the humerus, medial side; articulates with the ulna
Olecranon Fossa
depression in the posterior side of the distal end of the humerus; receives the olecranon process of the ulna
Coronoid Fossa
depression in the anterior distal end of the humerus; receives the coronoid process of the ulna
Radial Fossa
Depression lateral to the coronoid fossa; receives the radius
Coronoid Process
bottom protuberance of the C shape at the top of the ulna; is received by the coronoid fossa
Olecranon process
Top protuberance of C shape at the top of the ulna; is received by the olecranon fossa
Trochlear notch
Inner part of C shape that articulates with the trochlea of the humerus
Radial Notch
depression on side of C shape of ulna that receives the radius
Styloid Process of Ulna
Small point on distal end of the ulna; allows for wrist and pinky mobility and ligament attachment
Radial Head
Round head that articulates with the capitulum of the humerus
Radial Neck
connects the head to the shaft of radius
Radial Tuberosity
prominence on the medial side of the radius just distal of the neck; serves as an attachment point for muscles
Ulnar Notch
depression at the distal end of the radius that articulates with the ulna
Styloid Process of the Radius
Projection from the distal end of the radius; ligament attachment
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform, trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate
Carpals
Metacarpals
between carpals and phalanges; I,II,III,IV,V (thumb to pinky)
Phalanges
distal to metacarpals; proximal, middle, and distal; I, II, III, IV, V
