Caused by accidental mutation - can be caused by environment and give animal better chance of survival

Heritable Variation

Caused by differences in genes - passed from parent to child (hair, eye colour etc)

Environmental/ Non-variable Variation

Environmental factor and can’t be passed on (scars, piercings etc)

Continuous Variation

Continuous range and no categories (height of people can only be within a certain range)

Discontinuous Variation

Has distinct groups (finger tips are either arch, whorl or loop - no inbetween)
